Dominator
Ask any snowmobile or two-stroke motocross racer about AMSOIL and he or she knows the name Dominator. AMSOIL Dominator Synthetic 2-Cycle Racing Oil has earned a reputation for providing
maximum power output while maintaining maximum protection in two-stroke racing and high-performance applications. The name recognition, reputation and superior performance of Dominator Synthetic 2-Cycle Racing Oil is so widespread, AMSOIL has adopted the Dominator name for its new line of racing oils.

Three Viscosities, One Additive Package
Racing and high-performance engines subject motor oil to elevated RPM, high temperatures and shock-loading. AMSOIL Dominator Synthetic Racing Oils were developed to address these extreme conditions and provide high-quality AMSOIL performance and protection for a variety of racing and high-performance applications. All three Dominator Racing Oils feature the same additive package, providing maximum durability in multiple viscosities. Their shear-stable formulation was engineered to provide maximum horsepower without sacrificing engine protection. Dominator Racing Oils provide
straight-grade protection in a multi-grade formulation.

Maximum Durability, Maximum Wear Protection
AMSOIL Dominator Synthetic Racing Oils feature an additive package heavily fortified with zinc and phosphorus for superior long-term wear protection (see Four-Ball wear graphs). Designed for maximum durability, their shear-stable formulation ensures critical engine components are protected from the start of the race to the checkered flag. The superior additive technology of Dominator Synthetic Racing Oils provides unmatched durability in extreme conditions.

Superior Performance
The proprietary friction modifier of Dominator Synthetic Racing Oils provides reduced friction for maximum power and cooler engine temperatures, resulting in improved lap times and longer-lasting  equipment.

Protection from Startup to the Checkered Flag
The multi-viscosity designs of Dominator Synthetic Racing Oils deliver maximum protection in temperature extremes. Dominator Racing Oils offer excellent coldstart protection and maintain superior film strength during high-temperature operation on the track.

Superior-Quality Oils, No Discrimination
Many oil companies produce specialty racing oils for elite groups and do not offer them to the general public. For instance, several popular oil manufacturers produce racing oils offered only to high profile racers. AMSOIL receives inquiries as to why the company does not offer “special” or higher-quality oils. The answer is all AMSOIL synthetic motor oils are already formulated to a higher level than competitors’
oils, and AMSOIL Dominator Synthetic Racing Oils are no exception. They provide maximum performance and superior protection for all high-performance racing and street applications. The same AMSOIL Dominator Synthetic Racing Oils that are used in the engines of
AMSOIL corporately-sponsored racers, including Scott Douglas and Mike Oberg, are available to everyone.

Flat Tappet Oil

Protect your flat tappet camshaft lobes with products containing high levels of zinc/phosphorus (ZnDDP).
The below lubricants are recommended, they contain the proper level of zinc/phosphorus to protect against wear without the use of zinc additives.

ARO 20W-50 Synthetic Premium Protection

AMO 10W-40 Synthetic Premium Protection

HDD Series 3000 Synthetic 5W-30 Diesel Oil

RD50 15W-50 Synthetic Racing Oil

AHR SAE 60 Synthetic Racing Oil

Why should I protect my engine with AMSOIL?
Engine oils contain anti-wear additives and the most com-mon anti-wear chemistry is zinc dialkyldithiophosphate (ZnDDP), which contains a combination of zinc and phos-phorus. In 2005, in an effort to guarantee catalytic con-verter performance in new vehicles, the American Petro-leum Institute (API) and International Lubricants Standards Approval Committee (ILSAC) instituted API SM and IL-SAC GF-4 quality standards which reduced the maximum limit for phosphorus to 0.085% and 0.080% respectively. Both API SM and ILSAC GF-4 specifications also contain a minimum phosphorus content of .065% and .060%. Previously, API SL/ILSAC GF-3 oils were restricted to 0.10% phosphorus level, so a concern arose that oils con-taining lower levels of zinc/phosphorus could provide insuf-ficient protection in high pressure areas of flat tappets and camshaft lobes found in many older cars and high-performance engines.

Proper assembly lubes and oil additives should be used dur-ing the break-in phase for all new or rebuilt engines with flat tappets. These additives provide the extra protection required at the point of contact during break-in to help the flat tappet face to properly mate with the cam lobe. Once the break-in phase is completed, these additives should not be used because of other engine life issues created by long term use of these materials. AMSOIL does not provide break-in assembly lubricants, but one of the common prod-ucts is GM E.O.S., which is an assembly lubricant and is not, as stated by GM, an engine oil additive. AMSOIL does not recommend using any engine oil additives with AM-SOIL engine lubricants.

High-performance modified engines benefit from oils with superior film strength and anti-wear properties. The flat tappet/camshaft lobe interface is the one area in an engine that has extreme contact load. This load increases signifi-cantly where non-stock, high-pressure valve springs are em-ployed so the use of properly formulated engine lubricants is extremely important to reduce wear and extend flat tap-pet/camshaft life. In these applications, AMSOIL recom-mends motor oils containing high levels of zinc/phosphorus for superior protection.

AMSOIL AMO, ARO, HDD, TRO, and AHR all contain high levels of zinc/phosphorus maximizing flat tappet/camshaft life in stock and modified applications.

(AMO) and 20W-50 (ARO) are premium synthetic formulations which are recommended for API SL (gasoline)/CI-4 Plus (heavy-duty, on-road diesel) specified applications. They are an outstanding choice where high zinc containing protection is required in late model hot rods requiring extra camshaft protection.

AMSOIL
(HDD) is a 5W-30 weight combination diesel/gasoline oil with a higher starting TBN to handle the signifi-cant stresses from high soot loading and acid generation in modern diesel engines. HDD contains the high phosphorus and zinc required for long life.

AMSOIL 15W-50
(RD50) is a premium synthetic racing oil with superior film strength and anti-wear protection for gasoline engines. It is an excellent choice for street or race cars, hot rods, trucks or boats. RD50 is the preferred choice for highly modified, high horsepower engines requiring the extra protection required by flat tappet camshaft engines.

AMSOIL SAE 60
(AHR) is a super heavy weight racing oil de-signed for alcohol and nitro burning race engines where viscosity loss associated with fuel dilution is a concern. AHR includes a high dose of zinc containing anti-wear chemistry that race engines require.

The 3000 Mile Oil Change Myth

Promoted for years by most motor oil companies and quick lube businesses as an essential part of proper vehicle maintenance, the public has become much more skeptical in recent years. In fact, searches for “3,000 mile oil change” in top Internet search engines primarily yield articles and blog postings  that challenge the practice and refer to it as a “scam” or “myth.”

AMSOIL synthetic motor oil was introduced in 1972 as the only motor oil on the market recommended for 25,000-mile/one year drain intervals, and the company has spent much of the last 36 years as the lone voice promoting the benefits of extended drain intervals.

However, AMSOIL has recently welcomed an increasing number of companies and organizations to the party. Although they still don’t recommend drain intervals as long as AMSOIL recommendations, the momentum is growing.

Vehicle manufacturers have mostly recommended oil change intervals exceeding 3,000 miles in recent years. In fact, most recommend intervals of 5,000 miles or more. Ford Motor Company recommends drain intervals of 7,500 miles in its model year 2007 and newer vehicles, while other manufacturers incorporate oil monitoring systems in their newer vehicles that allow motorists to extend drain intervals even further.

In its December 2006 issue, Consumer Reports encourages drivers to follow the longer oil change recommendations of vehicle manufacturers, saying, “Although oil companies and quick-lube shops like to promote this idea [that engine oil should be changed every 3,000 miles], it's usually not necessary. Go by the recommended oil-change schedule in your vehicle's owner's manual. Most vehicles driven under normal conditions can go 7,500 miles or more between oil changes. Some models now come with a monitoring system that alerts the driver when the oil needs changing. Depending on driving conditions, these can extend change intervals to 10,000 or 15,000 miles.”

Steve Ritter, senior editor of Chemical & Engineering News, writes, “Conventional wisdom has held that the oil should be changed about every 3,000 miles. This notion has been ingrained into people's heads for decades, in part as a marketing ploy by oil companies. The 3,000-mile interval made sense when engines used single-grade nondetergent oils. But with the latest oils and car designs, it's no longer necessary to change oil that often under normal driving conditions.”

Concerned about the effects of used oil on the environment and responding to research that indicates 73 percent of California drivers change motor oil more often than their vehicle’s manufacturer recommends, the California Environmental Protection Agency and its Integrated Waste Management Board (CIWMB) have emerged as another strong opponent of the 3,000-mile oil change. The group recently launched a public information program and website (www.3000milemyth.org) designed to “bust the 3,000-mile myth” and encourage drivers to reduce used oil volume by following the longer oil drain recommendations of vehicle manufacturers.

“Used motor oil poses a great risk to the environment,” said CIWMB Chair Margo Reid Brown. “With better made cars and the rise of synthetic oils, the 3,000-mile standard is not always recommended.” Most recently, General Motors announced its support of the CIWMB program to educate drivers about oil change intervals. According to GM, standard 3,000-mile oil change recommendations are based on outdated engine and oil technology, and the company instead recommends changing oil based on its Oil Life System. Currently included on over 97 percent of all GM vehicles sold in the U.S., the GM Oil Life System typically allows drivers to extend drain intervals up to 10,000 miles through use of a computer-based software algorhythm that measures vehicle operating conditions.

With 31 million vehicles on the road equipped with the Oil Life System, GM spokesman Tom Henderson claims following its recommendations rather than the 3,000-mile rule could save 100 million gallons of oil annually. In addition to the environmental benefits associated with less waste oil, extended drain intervals save consumers money. For example, customers who purchase conventional oil at $3 or more per quart, drive 12,000 miles per year and follow 3,000-mile oil change recommendations spend at least $60 per year on oil alone (assuming a five-quart sump capacity). AMSOIL Dealers and Preferred Customers who pay $6.45 per quart (based on case pricing) under the same conditions pay only $32.25 per year.“When it comes to oil changes, less is more,” claims the CIWMB. “You’ll have more money in your wallet by changing your oil less, and fewer oil changes mean less oil that needs to be safely managed and recycled.”

Premium AMSOIL synthetic motor oils offer the longest drain intervals on the market, unsurpassed protection and performance that effectively extends equipment life and improved fuel economy, saving customers money at the pump and reducing the nation’s dependence on foreign oil.
