IrnieRacing AMSOIL KREATER placed 3rd in Calgary Armour Bodies AM 600 Sport bike.

Marcel Irnie, who is an AMSOIL Dealer in Kelowna BC, also happens to be a superb motorcycle road racer. This is only his second season of racing and he has already secured some excellent results. He mounts a small camera on his bike’s fuel tank which offers an excellent vantage point and makes you feel like you are part of the action. Check out this racing footage from Marcel's bike http://vimeo.com/1267927 recently captured at RaceCity National, Calgary AB.

Marcel has been competing in CMRA (Calgary Motorcycle Roadracing Association) events this season with back to back wins in Amateur Heavyweight and Amateur Middleweight. Marcel also placed fifth in Middleweight Superbike.

Marcel's comments.

I will soon travel across Canada to compete at Shubenacadie NS, for rounds RD5/6: August 7 - 10. I will also attend Shannonville, ON. for RD7: August 28 - 31.

My credit card and I, will be competing to win the Amateur 600 Sport Bike, against very fast riders, such as Jodi Christie, Patrick Marques, Martin Grande, and several others.

I have talked to several Factory Team managers, about what they are looking for in future riders. I must demonstrate that I can be consistant, and continue to finish on the podium at several tracks.

I am leaving for Dartmouth, Nova Scotia on August 1st, and I will return September 7th, with many trophies. Before I travel across the Continent, I will attend CMRA Round 3, July 13th, to extend my points lead in Amateur Heavyweight, and Amateur Middleweight.

Irnie claimed the Performance Under Gear Performer of the Race Award for his effort.

Finishing just outside of the top five amateur superbike racers in the country, Kelowna’s Marcel Irnie figures it was meant to be.

Irnie, 24, finished sixth amongst amateur superbike racers in Canada this season meaning he will be the top ranked amateur racer in Canada next year.

The top five racers ahead of him will all advance to the pro circuit.

“I was planning on trying to go pro after this season,” said Irnie, “but Parts Canada (the superbike series sponsor) said it was too early for me. It wouldn’t work well for me.”

Irnie completed his first full season of superbike racing when he attended a series of national races in eastern Canada in late summer.

He spent $7,000 of his own money to drive across country and try to make a name for himself on the national race circuit.

He did just that with his finishes and expects to be even better next season.

“Next year my goal is to hit the podium every time,” said Irnie. “My ultimate goal is to win the amateur championship next year.”

Irnie took up the sport of superbike racing competitively last year. This season was his first full year of racing and he established himself as one of the top amateurs in Western Canada.

Traveling to Eastern Canada—where most of the top races are held—and competing against the top amateurs in Canada gave Irnie the quality experience he was looking for.

“Before I was going fast but I didn’t have the skill or experience to match my speed,” he said. “Now when I enter the corners I feel more under control. I’m learning good racing technique.”

Irnie is also attempting to attract sponsors for his ride. He has been funding his racing basically on his own so far but adds that his results have got a few businesses interested.

“A have a few sponsors interested for next year,” he said. “There is potential for me to get sponsorship money.

“But I can’t wait. I just have to be prepared to do everything on my own.”

Irnie is heading to Portland early this month to continue to get experience on the superbike track. If you’re interested in sponsoring the local racer, contact him at 250-869-2515.

Marcel Irnie Finishes Canadian National Series in 6th Overall:

Marcel Irnie finished out the 2008 Armour Bodies Amateur 600 Sport Bike series with a strong result at Shannonville, Ontario on August 31st. Marcel scored a sixth place race finish and garnered enough points to secure sixth overall in the national series.

As Marcel was determined to take his AMSOIL KREATER Custom Cycle ZX6RR to the top of the leader board, he arrived one week early to take advantage of four track days at Shannonville Motorsport Park. This preparation paid huge dividends for Marcel as he topped the time sheets in Friday’s rainy practice and managed a strong fourth in Saturday’s qualifying sessions.
Sunday’s race brought early challenges as Marcel dropped four places in the race to the first turn. Marcel worked his way to fifth by the end of the first lap and eventually settled into fourth spot. Sean Huffman dove under Marcel on the last lap to nudge him down to fifth place. Race stewards determined that Marcel and another rider had jumped the start and he was given a five second penalty. This knocked Marcel down to sixth in the final results.

With a sixth place finish in the series overall standings, Marcel is one of the favorites in the amateur 600 class for 2009 as the top five above him will move up to the Pro class. See on-bike footage of Marcel’s exciting Shannonville performance on his Vimeo page.

Marcel is also an AMSOIL dealer in Kelowna, BC. (www.lubedealer.com/irnieracing).

AMP IrnieRacing Press Release:

AMSOIL Dealer, motorcycle road racer Marcel Irnie earned a hard fought 8th place finish in the Armour Bodies Amateur 600 Sport Bike class. Marcel drove 65 hours across the country to attend the Parts Canada Superbike Championship at Atlantic Motorsport Park in Shubenacadie, NS.

Marcel tells us that he crashed hard during Sunday morning practice, just 3 hours before the race. He iced his injuries and was able to get on his bike for the race.

Unfortunately his belly pan came loose on the first lap, so he pulled off the track and bailed in the mud at 5 kph. The bike stalled and would not re-start.

Luckily the race was red flagged due to another incident and he was able to patch his bike together and go racing. He lined up on the last row for the re-start and was able to work his way up to 8th position which he would hold until the checkered flag.

For his tenacity and hard work, Marcel won the Performance Under Gear Performance of the Race Award for the second time this season. Marcel scored a 7th place finish on the previous day. Marcel is currently 7th in the points standings and will be competing in the final round at Shannonville Motorsport Park on August 28-31.
